An efficient and stress free move depends on good preparation. You don’t know what to do, or when to do it? Stop worrying and follow the tips compiled here by our professional team of movers:
2 months prior to moving date
Make a list of what you need to do before actually moving out
Contact your moving company; confirm the date, time and details of the move
Decide what to keep and what to discard
Organise a garage sale, make donations or rent a storage unit
Get packing materials if you plan to do that part yourself
1 month prior to moving date
Start packing unfrequently used or out-of-season items
Label the boxes indicating content and destined room
Inform utility services (gas, electricity, etc.) of your leaving; prepare for set up at your new address
Notify insurance, bank, school, doctor, post office, etc.; go through all necessary procedures
Gather all your important documents at the same safe place; make sure they are available at all times
Make sure your car is in good state if you are moving far
2 weeks prior to moving date
Plan your food for the time remaining (what to bring to the new place and what to consume before)
Keep the utensils you need to cook and eat available
Plan the clothes you will need before moving out
Start packing everything else you have in your home
Pack your valuables (jewelry, personal documents, etc.) apart, so you can transport them yourself
Prepare the transport of plants and pets if necessary

Confirm the date and time scheduled with your movers
Clean your current place and, if possible, your future one
Prepare essentials for your first day(s) at your new place; transport them yourself
Moving day
Make sure your fridge is emptied and, if required, defrosted
Ensure all the utilities have been correctly disconnected
Review your list to see that every item is checked
Be there with your movers; show them the fragile or heavy items; answer their questions
Before the movers leave, do a last check of the place; verify nothing is left behind
